COPE Financial Aid

Financial Aid for Rescuers

DPCA Rescue offers limited financial aid to qualified Doberman Rescue organizations. The purpose of the financial aid is to help Rescuers and Rescue Organizations to perform Doberman Rescue yet avoid financial ruin. Rescue is an expensive activity, and despite fund raising, many Rescue organizations operate at a loss. DPCA Rescue tries to help limit the losses in order to encourage the Rescues organizations and help them develop into self supporting Rescues.

What Sort of Financial Aid does DPCA Rescue Provide?
DPCA Rescue will subsidize part of the cost of actual veterinary care provided to rescued Dobermans. The maximum amount of payment for each procedure is set by DPCA Rescue. DPCA Rescue operates with a limited budget, based on our ability to raise funds. It is therefore possible that when you apply for financial aid, only a portion of the amount you request will be available for disbursement. It is also possible that DPCA Rescue will be out of funds when you apply and no financial aid will be available. We work to avoid this situation but it does occur. The maximum amount of financial aid available for each veterinary procedure is indicated on the DPCA Rescue/Rescue Committee Veterinary Expense Subsidy Form.

What do I have to do to Receive Financial Aid?
You must be a member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America in order to receive financial aid from DPCA Rescue.  If the expenses are incurred by a Doberman rescue organization, one member of the organization must be a member of the DPCA. Any funds disbursed will be paid to the DPCA member in trust for the rescue.

How do I Apply for Financial Aid from DPCA Rescue?
Submit any subsidy requests by the 20th of the month following the end of each quarter.  Only veterinary expenses actually incurred during the prior quarter are eligible for payment.  For each dog, complete a DPCA Rescue Committee Veterinary Expense Subsidy Form.  Effective January 1, 2001, if you administer bulk medications for your rescue, DPCA Rescue will subsidize these expenses, subject to the same restrictions as other submissions – complete a DPCA Rescue Committee Bulk Medications Subsidy Form. These are  available on-line or by mail from Laurie Hanahan.  Mail the completed forms with copies of all receipts to:

Laurie Hanahan DPCA Rescue Committee P.O. Box 304

Submission Deadlines and Schedule
You must submit your DPCA Rescue Subsidy Forms complete with copies of all veterinary receipts as follows:

  • For veterinary expenses incurred between January 1 and March 31 – Have your envelope postmarked no later than April 20.
  • For veterinary expenses incurred between April 1 and June 30 – Have your envelope postmarked no later than July 20.
  • For veterinary expenses incurred between July 1 and September 30 – Have your envelope postmarked no later than October 20.
  • For veterinary expenses incurred between October 1 and December 31 – Have your envelope postmarked no later than January 20.

The reason for the strict timing guidelines is that we need to know the total amount of funding requested in a quarter before we can allocate the available funds.  Please cooperate by submitting your requests in a timely manner.  However it is NOT necessary to use certified, priority, or overnight mail to insure delivery! Don’t spend extra money on postage that can go to a rabies shot or heartworm treatment.  If you would like to know when your mail has arrived, email Laurie and she will let you know.

You should expect to receive a letter from DPCA Rescue containing any financial aid you will receive for your application by about the end of the month following your submission.

  • For submissions mailed by April 20 – DPCA Rescue financial aid (if any) will be mailed out by May 31.
  • For submissions mailed by July 20 – DPCA Rescue  financial aid (if any) will be mailed out by August 31.
  • For submissions mailed by October 20 – DPCA Rescue  financial aid (if any) will be mailed out by November 30.
  • For submissions mailed by January 20 – DPCA Rescue  financial aid (if any) will be mailed out by February 28.

Payment Records
DPCA Rescue now publishes a list of the rescues it funds.  We do so in order to allow the community that supports DPCA Rescue and rescue to see how their money has been spent.  Some rescues need more help than others for a variety of reasons.  Often, a rescue only requests funding for some of the dogs it has saved.  DPCA Rescue is proud to have been able to offer financial aid to the rescues that have requested it.

If you have any questions about the financial aid available from DPCA Rescue, please contact Laurie Hanahan, 703-431-1152.
